Obituary for Gloria F. Jacobson

Gloria F. Jacobson, age 87, of Rib Lake, WI, and formerly of Baileys Harbor, Ogema, and Prairie du Chien, died on June 14, 2019, at the Rib Lake Health Services nursing home. She was born on March 31, 1932, in Lily, SD, to the late Peter and Alma (Ohleen) Peterson.

Gloria graduated from the Lily High School in 1949 and from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. She married Rev. Luther Jacobson in 1952. She worked throughout her career as a registered nurse, including the hospitals in Medford and Prairie du Chien.

Gloria enjoyed traveling, including a visit to relatives in Norway, and driving to visit family and friends around the Upper Midwest. Throughout the summer, she enjoyed bicycling, sometimes riding more than a thousand miles per year. In her younger adult years, she found relaxation creating traditional Scandinavian rosemåling designs using embroidery rather than paint.

Survivors include four of five children, Julie Jacobson Vann of Chapel Hill, NC; Kirk Jacobson (Donna) of Hudson, WI.; Peter Jacobson (Barbara) of Ogema, WI.; and Tim Jacobson (Lisa) of La Crescent, MN; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; two siblings, Mary Jo Christensen of Sedona, AZ, and Wayne Peterson of Rochester, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Alma; daughter, Ruth McKinney; her brother, Stan Peterson; and Rev. Luther Jacobson.

A memorial service will be held this summer, the date is to be determined.  Memorials are appreciated to the “Caring for Creation” fund at First Lutheran Church or the Alliance of Nurses for Health Environments.
