Obituary for Douglas D. Jensen, Sr.

Douglas D. Jensen, Sr., age 69, of Tomahawk, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Marshfield Medical Center with loved ones by his side.  Doug was born on January 4, 1950, in Merrill, WI, to the late William and Mildred (Dales) Jensen.  He was married to Jean Prahl on September 11, 1970; she survives.

Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 serving in the Vietnam War in 1968 and 1969.  He was a combat-wounded veteran that was awarded the Purple Heart Combat Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal, and 3 Bronze Star Medals.  Doug and his family were extremely proud that he was a 42-year recovering alcoholic, which he always said saved his life.  He was an avid Packers, Brewers, and Badger fan and an amazing taxidermist who started “Jensen’s Taxidermy” in 1977.  He was a true outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing.  Countless hours were spent with his friend, Greg, on the water.  Doug was instrumental in organizing the “Take-a-Kid-Fishing Program” in Rhinelander.  He enjoyed camping where he played “Santa” for all of the kids.  He was grateful to have been a part of the Honor Flight this past year which was made possible by the hard work of his friends and neighbors, Becky and John Wendt.  He was also able to participate in the Wisconsin Wounded Warriors Hunt where he shot a 15-pointer.  Doug loved his wife and family immensely and will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include his Wife and Soulmate, Jean Jensen; his Son, Doug Jensen, Jr.; 1 Daughter, Kristian Jensen; 2 Granddaughters, Hannah and Noelle Rausch; and 1 Brother, Gregg Jensen.  Doug is further survived by many Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, William and Mildred; 2 Brothers, and 1 Sister.
